Homiletics (Preaching)
Most of the articles in this section are really a summary of and
response to each chapter of 'The Craft of Sermon Construction' by W. E.
Sangster. I tend to come at this subject from a very different angle to Sangster
(the first essay explains why). That said 'iron sharpeneth iron' so I am hoping
some of the questions raised and disputed in these essays provoke your own
thinking.
- Preach! An apology for
the sometimes forgotten art and craft of preaching.
- Sermon Types A classification
and study of sermons by their type.
- Sermon Structures Studies
the way a sermon can be broken into pieces to analyze a particular subject.
- Sermon Psychology
Discusses the way the preacher approaches the congregation and how different
approaches suit certain topics.
- The Beginning How to
start a sermon; again considered in context of the sermon topic.
- The Conclusion How to
end a sermon
- Sermon Preparation Argues
that a prepared lifestyle is at least as important as the preparation for the
preaching event itself.
- Preaching Pitfalls
Looks at some of the easy mistakes it is possible to make as a preacher
